November 2005

November 1

"California Sunset #1" Evening light and who knows what causes the brilliant colors some evenings? Perhaps smog, perhaps wild fires. In any event, the November sunsets can be brilliant and beautiful! Original acrylic on canvas, available now (no drying time!) 5 x 7 inches. $100

November 2

"Tuxedo Cat" This is our studio cat and resident heat magnet, warming himself in the morning sun. He was sitting there so placidly, that it was hardly a moment before I had a good image digitally to use as source material. Of course, Bats had to come and investigate while I painted him! Original acrylic, 7 x 5 inches.

to new collector Jonathan Chernes, Managing Editor, House Beautiful, New York City.

November 3

"Between Ventura and Santa Barbara, on the 101 Freeway" I've driven this stretch of freeway many, many times, and know those oil rig platforms. Back when I was in college, I would snorkel around them with a spear gun. Probably a stupid thing to do, especially solo, but hey, I was only 20. Original acrylic on canvas panel, 5 x 7 inches. Contact Elin about this painting.

to new collector Roy Renfro of Pottsboro, Texas

November 4

"My Two Horses" I painted this acrylic 5 x 7 looking out my window into the pasture across and below the stucio, where my two horses live during the day. the black is a Peruvian Paso, my riding horse, and the paint is a long yearling Missouri Foxtrotter--"future" riding horse!

to friend and collector Sheri Greaves-Nelson

November 5

"Nopales, Sliced" this is the time of year when certain cactus plants produce their fruit, called nopales. The red interior of these desert plants is an incredible color, rich and succulent. Original oil on canvas with painted edges (no framing needed) 5 x 7 inches.

November 6

"Peppermints"

Halloween is over, and the candy is left--for a while anyway. I set up these two wrapped peppermints as a reminder of both the holiday and many exits from restaurants. 5 x 7 Original Oil.

November 7

"Green Apple" I bought a bag of green Granny Smith apples both for caramel and for the horses. This one made a detour onto the cutting board for today's painting! Original oil, 5 x 7 inches.

November 8

"Grazing" This is a nice piece for November 8, only 6 inches square, and painted on the sides so it doesn't even need a frame. Contact Elin about this painting.

November 9

"Sunset, Relooping the Rope" This painting was started as a demonstration for the Temeku (Temecula) Art Association, and I finished it in the studio today. It is 16 x 20 inches, and available from my Full Web Site for $650.

November 10

"Pasture Light" The sun is going down, two horses, one a Leopard Appaloosa, are quietly resting in the pasture. Original acrylic on canvas, mounted on board, 5 x 7 inches.

to collector Meg Kubicka of Chicago, Illinois, as a gift for a relative.

November 11

"Apple Dessert" Sometimes the best part of painting is when I get to eat the set up. I waited until almost eleven p.m. before enjoying my dessert apple--now forever captured in acrylic paint. Original 4 x 6 inches. Contact Elin about this painting.

November 12

"Rockin' Zebras" This is a very unusual (for me) use of acrylic paints. The surface is stone, some kind of beautiful granite with soft green in it. So I painted a scene on it of a herd of zebras running. It is held in my hand, and measures about 7 inches wide and six inches tall. The stone is cut about 3/8" thick, and mounts with a hanger on the back, or can be set on a small easel.

November 13

"Morning Light Percheron" From my days at the Draft Horse Classic , here's a gelding in the morning light done on a gallery wrapped 6 x 6 canvas, ready for your wall! Original acrylic.

November 14

"Black, White and Grey" Today's painting is because of my trip to LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) where I spent a great deal of time in front of Camille Pizarro's paintings. I have a newfound respect for him--I think he eclipsed his painting partner Cezanne, at least in what they had for that special show. Original 4 x 6 acrylic.

November 15

"Full Moon Nocturne" I was driving up to visit my mother this evening, and looked east to see the full moon rising. Beautiful in the twilight! Original oil on canvas, 5 x 7 inches.

November 16

"Strawberries in the Basket" Today's painting is the result of going to Tom's Farms near Corona, and seeing these berries in their basket. You just KNOW I had them in a smoothie for dessert tongiht! Original 6 x 6 oil.

to collector Ramie Little of Atlanta, Georgia

November 17

"Three Berries" Not all of the strawberries went into the smoothie last night. Here are three of the more attractive ones on display for your enjoyment. Original oil, 4 x 6 inches.

November 18

"Macaroons" My all-time favorite cookie, and a wonderful dessert after painting these two coconut confections! Original acrylic on canvas 4 x 6 inches. Contact Elin about this painting. $100

November 19

"Full Moon #2" After the macaroons of yesterday, I guess I'd better get out and go walking! Twilight and that full moon memory of a few nights ago. It was 88 degrees today. Not winter yet! Original oil, 5 x 7 inches. Contact Elin about this painting. $100

November 20

"Sweet Tooth #1, Candy Corn" Uh oh. Holiday candy appear again in the studio. I'm being good though, and only painting these favorites. Original oil, 4 x 6 inches.

through Riverside Art Museum's annual "Off the Wall" exhibit.

November 21

"Sweet Tooth #2, Gummy Bears" How fun it is to see the way the light goes through these translucent treats. So beautiful, it is hard to eat them... but I digress! Original oil, 4 x 6 inches.

through Riverside Art Museum's annual "Off the Wall" exhibit.

November 22

"Sweet Tooth #3, For Love or Money" Since many people love chocolate, this seems an appropriate title for this Sweet Tooth #3 painting. Original oil, 4 x 6 inches. Contact Elin about this painting. $100

November 23

"Sweet Tooth #4, Jelly Beans" OK, enough with the sweet stuff for a few days. Just painting them has been fun, however the temptation is growing! Original oil on canvas 4 x 6 inches. Contact Elin about this painting.

through Riverside Art Museum's annual "Off the Wall" exhibit.

November 24

"Shire Horse, Backlit" Also known as "Hold On There!" Back to acrylics and back to horses for this daily painting. I was fascinated by the length of the forelock on this draft horse and I took his picture as he went by. I'm working on the third video, which features backlit subjects, so this is a great warmup. Original acrylic, 7 x 5 inches. Contact Elin about this painting.

to Juliet Harrison of Red Hook, New York

November 25

"Two Goldens" Back to the fruit from Tom's Farms, these two golden delicious in oils, 5 x 7 inches graced my easel this evening. Double dessert!!

November 26

"Evening above the Ortegas" I was driving back from a late afternoon appointment and looked west to see the clouds coming in from the ocean. Trying my best to remember the details, I came home to paint this 5 x 7 original evening memory. Contact Elin about this painting. $100

November 27

"Flash in the Pan" I love to paint water. This daily painting captures the water jump at Rolex Three Day Event in Lexington from material I gathered while there. Original acrylic on gallery wrap canvas, 6 x 8 inches (no framing needed).

November 28

"Butterscotch" Oh, how I do love these hard candies! And after yesterday's complex painting, this was pure joy to paint...and eat! Contact Elin about this painting. $100

November 29

"Opera House, Catalina Island" Today's painting is of the famous Opera House at Avalon on Catalina Island, shown in morning light. The harbor is calm, the light brilliant, and another beautiful day begins on Santa Catalina Island. Original oil, 4 x 4 inches. $250

November 30

Last painting for November--and since the weather has turned a tad cooler, I thought I'd finish up with this vista from the Southwest Desert areas--"Ocatillo Desert Cactus" in bloom. Original oil on board, 7 x 5 inches. Currently on ebay.
